We have the 101 on wine matches for your staple NZ activities this spring/summer.
1. Evening Wine on the Deck –
We Kiwis love a relaxing wine on the deck at the end of a long day, and a great match for this is a
classic Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir; smooth, and not too heavy, it’s a fantastic before-bed wind down.
If reds aren’t your thing, then go for a Chardonnay; buttery oaky goodness gives it the relaxing summer vibes you’re craving.
2. BBQ on the Beach:
If you’re firing up the barbie, you can’t go past a Syrah. A light, fruity red with a bit of spice, makes for a perfect pairing with grilled foods – trust us – this is the one to go for!
But if you’re looking for something lighter, go for a Rosé. It’s a pretty safe match for a variety of grilled meats/veggies, and a solid crowd pleaser. And nothing says spring/summer quite like a Rosé. (Just don’t forget the chilly bin)!
3. Drinks and Nibbles with the Girls:
Getting out the cheese and crackers? Sauvignon Blanc is your go-to here. The fruity acidity of the sav balances with the creamy cheeses and dips, and matches the lightness of the occasion. And for extra fun – make it a Bubbly Sav!
4. A Home-made Feed:
Meal at the neighbours? Then go for a Merlot Malbec; it’s a bit heavier, so can handle the richness of a Sunday Roast, or big-flavoured meal.
Or if you want to play it safe, then pick up a Pinot Gris. It’s a versatile wine that matches well with most meats and sauces. And even spicy dishes!
